Opportunities for Creatives: Artist Entrepreneurial Fund, Public Art RFQs, and more

Bridgeway Capital has launched the CDCP + Monmade Art Business Coaching Program. The Erie County Redevelopment Authority has opened its second round of grants for artist entrepreneurs. Bakery Square is soliciting qualifications from artists or artist teams, to provide artwork incorporated into/onto the façade of its newly renovated building at 6425 Penn Ave, on the interior of its campus in the Larimer neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA.

Active Erie/ Creating with Community Information Session

Interested in applying to become a Creating with Community Artist?

Join us for an Information Session on January 19 at 6 PM. Learn more about this year's initiative and get all of your questions answered about the application.

Erie Arts & Culture will be present to walk through the program application and the City of Erie will be present to explain what the Active Transportation Plan is.  We are distributing a Request for Qualifications from artists for our 2021 program. We seek submissions from artists and creatives who are interested in collaborative and participatory approaches to art-making and community building. Artists who participate in the program must be willing to include community members as a central part of planning, implementing, and evaluating creative projects.

Paper Clips | Join us to Examine the American Dream and Who Has Access to It

Examining the American Dream, and who has access to it, through books and movies.

Please join us for Paper Clips, a virtual program that uses literature and film to frame conversations about community issues and social change. Hayes Moses and Abdullah Washington will return to co-facilitate lively discussions centering around "The Fire Next Time" written by James Baldwin and the movie "I Am Not Your Negro" a 2016 documentary film directed by Raoul Peck.

You're Invited! Join us for a Mural Dedication Ceremony at the Almadina Market

EVENT: Jan 9 at 1 PM

Ghadah Hussien, a graphic designer and artist from Iraq, created a mural for Almadina Market, located at 2325 Parade Street. It features iconic architecture from Syria, Iraq, and Erie. This is the third mural at a New American owned market funded by a grant from the Doris Duke Foundation for Islamic Art. All are welcome to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.

Masks and social distancing measures are required.

Maintaining Independence and Supplemental Income Strategies for Artists

In this PRO Network workshop, Alia Ali will share her insights about how artists can maintain a steady stream of income through producing multiples, special editions, merch, and more. Drawing from her own experience and examples, Alia will discuss all logistics around how to price your work, strategies for social media outreach, and basic accounting. Participants should feel free to bring a current project to the workshop where Alia will offer feedback and suggestions.

Honoring the 2020 Appreciation Award Recipients

For more than three decades, the Arts and Culture Appreciation Awards have recognized and honored those individuals, businesses, and organizations who use arts-based disciplines or deliver cultural programming to positively impact the Erie community. This year's honorees were announced and celebrated at the End of Year Variety Show on December 4, 2020.

Receiving an award for one’s hard work is certainly an honor - something that we remember forever. We thank all of these exceptional individuals and organizations for their positive impact on the Erie community.
