Erie Arts & Culture, through its New Horizons initiative, has an active call to artists for a paid opportunity to work as an understudy on an upcoming public art project.
Zedz, a Dutch artist residing in Italy, will arrive in Erie in early September to transform the exterior facade of 121 West 12th Street, a building owned by Zaphiris Family Limited Partnership. Zedz plays with geometry as a tool for self-expression and he incorporates typographical and lineal techniques into his work. As an international artist, Zedz has created works of art throughout Europe and Asia, including Russia, Japan, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany, just to name a few countries, but he has never painted a mural in the United States. Erie will be the only city in the US with a piece by Zedz.
The understudy will assist Zedz in the beginning stages of this project. They will prep materials, assist with creating a preliminary grid, and provide additional assistance as requested. This is a great opportunity for an Erie based artist to learn first-hand how to scale work and execute an outdoor project. This opportunity will best serve an artist interested in future public art opportunities.
This opportunity will pay $20 per hour. It does require a flexible schedule. Projects such as this can be physically demanding.
Those interested should confirm that they are available September 4 through September 10, 2019. To apply, please email [email protected]. When doing so, please include a brief bio about yourself and provide examples of your work.
