In 2014, Lisa Austin and Stephen Sonnenberg penned an article for the Erie Reader's blog titled "Considering the City." In this article, Austin and Sonnenberg explored four steps that could be taken to improve the visual landscape in Erie, improve the lives of residents, and make a better impression on visitors. The four improvements that Austin and Sonnenberg recommend are:

Stop front yard and sidewalk parking
Don't litter
Get rid of illegal signs
