On Saturday, November 6, Erie Arts & Culture and it’s collaborating partners, Erie Downtown Partnership and PH&G, will host the first annual Western Pennsylvania Maker Market. The outdoor fall market will feature 31 vendors from Western Pennsylvania representing a wide range of handmade goods, objects, and apparel. The market will start at 11:00 AM and conclude at 3:00 PM and will be held in the western portion of Perry Square.
Erie Arts & Culture’s objective is to assist in raising the profile of local and regional makers, many of whom operate as small businesses. As we lead into the holiday gift buying season, this market represents a great opportunity to both get a start on preparing for the holidays while also supporting small businesses. Nearly ¾ of the vendors selected for this market have not participated in any previous markets in Downtown Erie, which should provide a newness to this event and differentiate it from other markets that occur in the city of Erie.
Additionally, Erie Arts & Culture has again partnered with ImagineAR to develop a unique augmented reality (AR) experience in the park. Visual and literary artist
Jack Honeysett, who recently moved to Meadville from the United Kingdom, has created a site specific AR experience that will include four poems that he wrote in response to time that he spent in Perry Square and Downtown Erie. Visitors to the park can view Jack’s poems, which appear to float in the air, by downloading the ImagineAR app to their smartphone (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/imaginear-augmented-reality/id1354669145).
This time of the year is also when Erie Arts & Culture annually hosts Fall for Arts & Culture, an event through which we recognize and celebrate community members for their support and contribution to the creative and cultural sector. Fall for Arts & Culture was cancelled this year due to ongoing precaution related to the pandemic. However, this year’s community award recipients will be celebrated at the Western Pennsylvania Maker Market, with the awards ceremony beginning at 2:00 PM.
