Start to Finish Papermaking  with Ashley Pastore - Grounded Print Shop

Papermaking LOCAL PLANT FIBER PAPERMAKING WORKSHOP with Tim Frerichs This workshop will explore using dried local Milkweed fiber along with Thai Kozo to make Eastern Style Paper. Participants will learn how to source, prepare, pull sheets, press and dry natural fibers to create a sustainable, thin, strong beautiful paper. The workshop will focus on modes of preparation, creation, and drying of the paper fibers for making modified Eastern-Style handmade paper. This hands-on workshop will result in participants creating and bringing home numerous sheets of high quality paper. Saturday January 15, 2022 $100 10:00 - 4:00 Limit 12 participants REGISTER As a Professor of Art at SUNY Fredonia, Timothy Frerichs has lead international and national studio art workshops. This is alongside teaching Studio Art courses at the University. Timothy Frerichs received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College, MN, and a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Iowa. Frerichs has received numerous awards including two Fulbright awards, a Netherland-America Foundation Cultural Grant, a United States Embassy, The Hague, Project grant, a Scandinavian-America Foundation Fellowship, a Constance Saltonstall Foundation Grant for Printmaking, a USA Projects grant, and recently, a 2019 Global Warming Art Project Grant. Frerichs’ drawings, installations, prints, and artist books have been widely exhibited internationally and nationally. His artwork is included in international and national public, corporate, and private collections. Start to Finish Papermaking with Ashley Pastore In this workshop we will start at the very beginning by beating our fiber. We will then learn the basics of sheet formation, pigmenting pulp and stenciling. We will then press our paper and load into the dryer.
