Artist Biography

Ileecia Moffatt is a muralist and Illustator born and raised in Erie, Pa. In May 2022, she graduated from Edinboro University with a BFA in Illustration for her career path. She has worked with the Erie Arts and Culture community to help beautify local neighborhoods, as well as walking routes where children walk to and from school.

Her main focus is on producing art with a positive message behind the image on the paper or the wall. She has worked with the Erie Arts and Culture Community on and off since 2022, which has been a wonderful experience to work in. Through the successes and hardships throughout her mural career, she still stands strong and focuses on what really matters while producing art, maintaining a positive message to anyone who needs a bit of happiness in their life.

Artist Statement, Mural Making Process, and Art Style(s)

My mural process begins with rough sketches before having a complete final design.

When producing on a wall, the wall needs to be primed before anyaerosol-canned paint touches the surface. I tend to use aerosol canned paint and acrylic paint for making my murals, which can be considered a mixed media type of project! I pick out an appropriate color palette to start off with that corresponds with my idea. I use the mapping technique to mimic the final product of what the mural is going to look like on the wall. This way i know where everything is placed before getting into the details of the mural. Once the mural is completed and everything looks how it should look, I will go in and tweak some details to my liking! Then I finish off with a water-based sealer to top off the final image.

My art style that I believe represents me as an artist is more of the storybook illustrated style with a hint of realism.
