Artist Biography

Jason Amatangelo’s work explores how he can trick your eye into believing what it’s seeing. He plays with depth in his paintings and images of things we find in our everyday lives, whether a drawing, a vintage photograph, or even money. Over many years of experimentation, Amatangelo has developed a unique style that is reminiscent of his background in animation at Edinboro University. His work illustrates his own little worlds, which is why he has been fascinated by animation. Spending many Saturday mornings eating cereal and watching cartoons, little did he know this would develop into his style of work. While Jason’s work isn’t about cartoon characters, the geometric forms and bold colors evoke the worlds found in animation that can’t be found in real life.

Amatangelo lives in Erie, PA, with his wife and three kids; his studio is located in historic Little Italy. Over the years, Jason’s process has evolved alongside this art to produce more complex, exciting work. The use of technology and traditional methods is at the heart of his process, and it’s ever-changing as new techniques are adapted to Jason’s style. Jason’s works are in private collections worldwide, as well as in public spaces and corporate offices, including Hilton Hotels, Erie Insurance, and Kroger. Jason’s Public Murals can also be seen in multiple cities, as the list keeps growing.
