Thank you to the Philanthropists Fund, Young Erie Professionals, and the Hamot Health Foundation!

Erie Arts & Culture is happy to announce that through the generosity and support of the Young Erie Philanthropists Fund, Young Erie Professionals, and the Hamot Health Foundation, $15,000 was recently awarded in support of a public mural initiative in the city of Erie.  "This project that we are going to fund through this initiative will engage youth throughout Erie County to come together and collectively and collaboratively work on a mural initiative," said Patrick Fisher, Executive Director of Erie Arts & Culture.

Local high school students will work in collaboration with Erie Arts & Culture rostered teaching artist, Thomas Ferraro, to complete the mural. Together, they will learn about visual storytelling, placemaking, team work, design, and painting, all in an effort to celebrate and build a sense of pride within their community while enhancing their personal skills as they engage in career preparedness.

Collaboration with the students is expected to start in the new year, with the mural installation happening in the spring once fairer weather returns to Erie. In the meantime, Erie Arts & Culture staff is working with local school administrators to develop logistics and a list of participants. Erie Arts & Culture has also started discussions with local business owners to help determine which specific wall would serve as the best location for this mural. Any interested property owner should not hesitate to contact Erie Arts & Culture to join this conversation.
